College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Student Council

The CALS Student Council shall be an organized, unified voice for all students interested in agricultural and life sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The purpose of the council shall be to develop student leaders and promote agriculture, the life sciences, and the Wisconsin Idea in academia and the community.

Resolution of Support: 

PREAMBLE: As the representative student body of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) and in order to provide the best quality higher education, student services, and opportunities to our constituents we shall establish a meta-council to empower this and other representative bodies by providing communication, mission, and vision to our student bodies.  

AS the CALS Student Councilis the official voice and representative body of the students of the CALS; and

THAT, this body is comprised of students elected from within the council and as representatives from the organizations affiliated with the CALS; and

THAT, acting as the primary connection between students and the CALS; and

THAT, given that CALS Student Council is formally connected through shared governance with the student/faculty committees within the CALS by appointing student representatives to these committees; and

THAT, this and other similar bodies shall be referred to as a student council (SC); and

THAT, an association of these SCs shall be termed a meta-council.

WHEREAS, that this SC, being established in 1932; and

THAT, given the need for an official body defined as the meta-council (MC) to ensure communication between these SCs and;

AS RESOLVED, by the Council here assembled that we shall organize,

TO increase communication and organization between official representative student bodies

TO form a MC through a MC initiative (MCI) with other college SCs whose mission shall be to formalize communication, ensure the power and rights of student councils are protected, and to expand student power and student voice.

TO use our right as SCs to structure and govern ourselves and our constituents as is most effective in the stated mission and in a manner agreed on by their constituents to ratify and initiate the MCI;

HEREFORE the CALS Student Council endorses the spirit of the meta-council initiative and will commit resources to the achievement of the stated goals.
